The future of Maine wildlife and habitat conservation policies and programs depends upon decisions made by our elected officials. While Maine Audubon does not endorse candidates in any election, we are able to ask questions and educate candidates on wildlife and habitat issues. As we’ve done in the past, Maine Audubon invited all candidates running to be our state’s next Governor who qualified for the upcoming primary election to participate in a 13-question survey covering a variety of wildlife-related topics.
Thanks to everyone who attended the May 27 open house and ribbon cutting of the Ann and Jim Hancock Native Plants Education Center and expanded, adjacent growing area at Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm headquarters in greater Portland. Supported initially by generous donations from Ann and Jim Hancock, the new structure will enable Maine Audubon to continue to grow its thriving native plants program. Read about the opening here >
We’re also making some improvements to the Visitor Center designed to increase energy efficiency, which you can read about here >
While visitors have been coming for several weeks and keeping a close eye on the peony garden, Monday, June 8 has turned out to be the day they started to open up. You can follow their progress online in our slideshow, then choose when to visit!
